Origin Story

The SSG 08 | Tropical Storm features a camouflage pattern achieved through spray-painting with stencils of cardboard cutouts, fine mesh, and palm leaves. This Industrial Grade skin, released on November 27, 2013, is part of The Mirage Collection, one of the original map-based collections. Its design uses muted greens, sandy beige, and darker brown accents to evoke a tropical jungle aesthetic. The most visible element in first-person is the leaf-stenciled pattern covering the main body and barrel of the SSG. As a legacy collection item, it is primarily sought after by collectors aiming to complete Mirage-themed inventories or seeking a thematic, low-rarity SSG.

SSG 08 | Tropical Storm is Industrial Grade, a common skin tier, one step above Consumer Grade. It has appeared across 13 tournament packages, most recently the Krakow 2017 Mirage Souvenir Package, London 2018 Mirage Souvenir Package, and MLG Columbus 2016 Mirage Souvenir Package.


Souvenir Packages are awarded to viewers watching live Major matches on the corresponding map, not opened from cases, so Valve doesn't publish per-skin drop odds. Each package contains one item from The Mirage Collection, with rarity tiers drawn on a weighted system that heavily favors common grades, meaning Industrial Grade skins like Tropical Storm are a small fraction of total package contents. There are 4 other Industrial Grade skins in the collection competing for the same drop slot. New copies only enter the market when a recipient chooses to open their package, so supply trickles in over time even after the tournament ends.

Float range 0.06 to 0.8. Exteriors: Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, Battle-Scarred. StatTrak is not available for this skin.

• Minimal Wear ($24.63): Colors remain vibrant for a camouflage scheme, with the leaf/mesh stencil pattern fully intact and only light rub on the sharpest edges, representing the cleanest possible version.
• Field-Tested ($18.40): Noticeable edge wear and mild overall fading appear along the barrel and leading edges, though the tropical stencil pattern remains clearly readable.
• Well-Worn ($15.50): More extensive fading is present across the main body, making the tropical pattern look washed-out, with larger and more frequent edge wear and visible underlying metal on the barrel and stock edges.
• Battle-Scarred ($18.30): The camouflage and leaf stencil pattern becomes heavily faded with substantial visible wear and exposed metal patches across the body and barrel, resulting in muted and greyed colors.

Model

Tropical Storm uses the legacy SSG 08 model, introduced with Out with the old, in with the new on November 27, 2013. The inspect animation and third-person appearance match the original CS:GO version.

How to Obtain

The SSG 08 | Tropical Storm is exclusively available as a Souvenir skin, originating from various Mirage-themed Souvenir Packages. These packages, such as the Atlanta 2017 Mirage Souvenir Package and the Katowice 2019 Mirage Souvenir Package, were awarded to viewers during past Major tournaments. Since new packages are no longer distributed, the only way to acquire this skin today is by purchasing it directly from other players. Buyers can find available copies on the Steam Community Market, third-party marketplaces, or specialized CS2 skin trading sites.
