This finish is achieved through a cold bluing process, resulting in a chemically treated surface rather than a painted one, which gives it a worn, realistic metal appearance. It is often considered a lower-tier, budget classic knife finish, valued for its subtle, tactical look. The knife's visual identity is further defined by the prominent display of the darkened blue-gray metal along the spine and upper flat of the blade, as well as its distinctive clipped profile and sawback-style top edge.

Blue Steel uses the legacy Survival Knife model, introduced with Operation Shattered Web on November 19, 2019. The inspect animation and third-person appearance match the original CS:GO version.
