Origin Story

The AUG | Sand Storm was released on September 22, 2021, as part of Operation Riptide and the 2021 Mirage Collection. It features a custom paint job that depicts a sand storm passing beneath a night sky. The design captures a dramatic natural phenomenon, giving the weapon a distinctive visual theme. Its in-game flavor text, "There is beauty all around us, you just have to know where to look," invites observers to appreciate the intricate details of its artwork.

Drop Chance

AUG | Sand Storm is Restricted, a Purple-tier skin in the upper half of the rarity ladder. It has appeared across 8 tournament packages, most recently the Rio 2022 Mirage Souvenir Package, Shanghai 2024 Mirage Souvenir Package, and Stockholm 2021 Mirage Souvenir Package.


Souvenir Packages are awarded to viewers watching live Major matches on the corresponding map, not opened from cases, so Valve doesn't publish per-skin drop odds. Each package contains one item from The 2021 Mirage Collection, with rarity tiers drawn on a weighted system that heavily favors common grades, meaning Restricted skins like Sand Storm are a small fraction of total package contents. How to Obtain

The AUG | Sand Storm is exclusively available as a Souvenir skin, originating from special Souvenir Packages distributed during past Major tournaments. These packages, such as the Antwerp 2022 Mirage Souvenir Package, Stockholm 2021 Mirage Souvenir Package, and Paris 2023 Mirage Souvenir Package, were awarded to viewers watching live matches. Since these tournaments have concluded, new packages are no longer being distributed. Consequently, players today acquire this skin by purchasing existing copies from the Steam Community Market, third-party marketplaces, or various CS2 skin trading sites.
